Ученые в первый раз научно описали и зафиксировали случай массового ухода жаб перед надвигающимся землетрясением, что может применяться в разработке систем прогнозирования сейсмической активности земной коры, говорится в статье английских исследователей.
Авторы статьи - небольшая группа исследователей из лондонского Открытого университета - наблюдали за обычными жабами, которые в течение месяца ежегодно мечут икру. Ученые решили исследовать воздействие лунного цикла на размножение таких животных.
В ходе своих наблюдений, исследователи зафиксировали, что за шесть дней до сильнейшего землетрясения в Италии, произошедшего в апреле 2009 года, более девяноста процентов "мужского жабьего населения" побросали свой мелководный пруд и осмелились вернуться в него лишь спустя несколько дней после заключительных слабых толчков. За четыре дня до этого землетрясения небольшой пруд, который располагался в семидесяти километрах от эпицентра события, решили покинуть все жабы.
