Ученые заявляют, что среднегодовая температура на планете в 2010 году будет на уровне 14,58º С, тогда как по настоящий момент максимальным, зафиксированным в 1998 году, показателем температуры является 14,52º С.
По словам метеорологов Великобритании, температура на Земле в этом году скорее всего достигнет максимальной отметки. Причиной этих перемен будут не только глобальные климатические изменения, и изменения температурных показателей воды в тропическом поясе Тихого океана. Прогнозы специалистов по климату говорят о том, что температура на земной поверхности в 2010 году будет превышать средние показатели периода с 1961 по 1990 годы на 0,6º С. Таким образом, за последние полтора десятка лет 2010 год может стать самым жарким. Новому рекорду температур могут помешать уменьшение силы действия течения Эль-Ниньо в восточных тропиках Тихого океана и крупные вулканические извержения.
Напомним, что причиной предыдущего рекорда температур, установленного в 1998 году, стало именно мощное действие Эль-Ниньо, изменившее океанические течения и вызвавшее ливни, что привело к повышению температуры на планете.
