На следующий день после окончания Игр Президент РФ Д. Медведев сообщил о том, что лица, отвечающие за подготовку спортсменов, должны быть освобождены от должностей, которые они занимают. Тот, кто отвечает за подготовку, должен отвечать и за ее результат - так считает Медведев. Поэтому эти люди должны набраться мужества и уйти в отставку. Об этом Президент РФ заявил на встрече с руководителями партии «Единая Россия», состоявшейся 1 марта.
Заявление об отставке подал глава Олимпийского комитета России (ОКР) Леонид Тягачев. Он возглавлял ОКР почти девять лет.
