Проектом WikiLeaks опубликованы документы Пентагона о иракской войне. Объём досье велик: приблизительно 400 тысяч документов. Документы размещены на сайте проекта в открытом доступе.
Первыми журналистами, нарушившими запрет на разглашение сведений и раскрывшими содержание материалов, стали журналисты катарского телеканала «Аль-Джазира». После этого администраторы проекта WikiLeaks разрешили всем изданиям публиковать статьи, основанные на материалах досье, раньше оговорённого срока.
«Иракское досье», в частности, содержит дела на всех, кто пострадал или погиб в Ираке вследствие боевых действий с участием коалиционных сил. По утверждению «Аль-Джазира», военными ведомствами США были зафиксированы смерти 109 тыс. человек. Из них, 63 процента – мирные жители. Общее же число пострадавших иракцев составило 285 тыс. человек.
«Иранским досье» охвачен период 2003-2009 годов и раскрыто, по меньшей мере, 15 тысяч неучтённых ранее смертей. Кроме того, досье WikiLeaks вскрывает случаи пыток, применяемых к задержанным иракскими полицейскими и военными. Многие случаи не расследовались, а виновники наказания избежали.
В ответ на публикацию досье, Пентагон сделал заявление о вероятности нанесения публикацией серьёзного ущерба не только американским военным, но и иракцам, которые сотрудничали с силами НАТО.
