В среду 12 января в Аденском заливе подверглось нападению пиратов судно «Leopard». Сначала пропала связь с кораблём. В последствии были организованы поисково-спасательные мероприятия. Лишь на следующий день дрейфующее судно обнаружили. «Leopard» оказался пуст, на нём не было ни пиратов, ни шести членов экипажа. В числе последних находились 4 представителя Филиппин и 2 подданных Датского государства.
Деловой еженедельник TradeWinds пишет, что владельцем судна является датская компания под названием Shipcraft. Её специализация заключается в перевозках особых грузов, в частности, ядерного оборудования и материалов. В этот раз на борту «Leopard» находилось оружие. Какова его судьба, пока достоверно не известно.
Специалистов очень удивляет тот факт, что сомалийские пираты покинули борт корабля. Ранее они никогда этого не делали. Предполагается, их мог напугать содержащийся на судне груз. Куда исчезли моряки «Leopard», тоже неизвестно. На этот счёт есть несколько версий. Например, пираты могли забрать их с собой и укрыться на захваченном месяцем ранее судне Shiuh Fu No 1. Либо члены экипажа погибли в результате штурма. Сейчас ведётся расследование.
