Полиция Испании задержала преступную группу хакеров, разработавших компьютерный вирус Mariposa, который поразил свыше тринадцати миллионов компьютеров по всей планете. Пока полицейские не сообщают подробности ареста и имена задержанных. Возможно, будет задержан ряд лиц, подозреваемых в причастности к этому делу. По словам представителей полицейского ведомства, для того, чтобы задержать эту группу, была разработана и проведена самая крупная операция из всех, которые когда-либо проводились в мире.
Вирусом Mariposa заразились компьютеры в ста девяноста странах, в т.ч. и те, которые принадлежат крупнейшим компаниям мира. Как сообщают компании Defence Intelligence (Канада) и Panda Security (Испания), занимающиеся компьютерной безопасностью и способствовавшие полиции в задержании преступной группы, от вируса пострадали также не менее сорока банков и страховых компаний. Проникновение вируса Mariposa в компьютеры происходило посредством уязвимости, находящейся в браузере Internet Explorer (Microsoft), а также через переносные устройства USB.
Вирус воровал пароли и прочую секретную информацию, в числе которой были и номера кредитных карт и счетов в банках. После пересылки вирусом украденных данных в единую базу данных преступники различными способами конвертировали их в деньги.
