В 2010 или в 2011 году начнется бурение двух арктических скважин. Данную новость нам сообщил генеральный директор Центра исследования «Арктика» Владимир Павленко во время выездного совещания Совета Академии наук РФ в городе Архангельске. В каком месте будет происходить бурение, Павленко не уточнял. Он лишь сделал предположение, что, возможно, это пройдет не на территории хребта им. Ломоносова, а в малоизученных пространствах и местах, о которых почти никому ничего неизвестно.
К сегодняшнему дню Канада, США, Китай, Великобритания, Япония и Южная Корея имеют свои исследовательские станции, занимающиеся изучением Арктики. У России есть специальный комплекс мер, которые способны усилить роль нашего государства на том континенте. Среди них – предложение по созданию соответствующего органа, который бы занимался проблемами Арктики. Кроме того, Министерство труда разрабатывает специальную программу, предназначенную для основательных исследований Арктики.
Стоит напомнить, что наша страна претендует на получение 1,2 млн. кв. км Арктического региона. Отечественные специалисты говорят, что на данной территории находятся примерно 5 млрд. тонн так называемого топлива, а помимо него есть и немалое количество твердых полезных ископаемых.
