Will Smith shared, "Let me tell you, Hancock was so liberating... for me, to just be able to say anything, really. The characters that I've played in the past few years have been really disciplined and refined... to play a guy who's an alcoholic superhero is just a beautifully politically incorrect character to play."

Smith goes on to talk about why being in Hancock was "almost like The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, where the style is just totally free!... Everything was acceptable. It definitely reawakened an old style of performing."
