From the White House to the Movie House
In honor of July 4th and the upcoming Bush II biopic 'W.', here are a few of the best and worst versions of past presidents on the big screen and the small.

By Adam Bulger

Since Hollywood will almost always invent a president instead of portraying a real one, there are fewer movie depictions of real-life presidents than you might think. That's fine in most cases — Independence Day is better off not having a Bill Clinton doppelganger fighting aliens in a jet. But sometimes it's frustrating, like when you consider how there hasn't been a substantial role in a theatrically released picture for George Washington in decades. Not only was he father of our country, he had wooden teeth. What method actor wouldn't want to sink his gums into that?

Not every president is worth a movie, of course — we're looking at you, Warren G. Harding — but some chief execs are practically made for the screen. That's why much of the movie-loving population is eagerly awaiting Oliver Stone's third dip into presidential waters with Bush II biopic W. In honor of the Fourth of July, here are some of the greatest hits and misses in onscreen presidents.
